The plain-language version of how AHNOU works and what you agree to when you use it. If anything here is unclear, write to us - a real person answers

What AHNOU is

AHNOU gives you a wedding website, a gift registry, and a guest list in one place. You build the website from our templates, add gifts from any store or as experiences, and your guests RSVP and give through your site. AHNOU is not a shop - we do not sell the gifts on your list. Where a guest gives money rather than buying something, that payment goes straight into your own Stripe account. AHNOU never holds your gift money and never has it to send on

Who can use AHNOU

You must be 18 or older to open an account, and old enough where you live to enter a binding agreement. Your guests do not need an account to RSVP or give a gift. We do not knowingly let anyone under 13 create an account or hand us their details - if you believe a child’s information has reached us, write to us and we will remove it

Your account

Signing in takes two things: your password, and a code we send to your email. Both, every time - so a stolen password on its own does not open your account, and neither does someone reading your inbox. Keep the address current, since the code has to reach you, and tell us promptly if you think somebody else has reached your account. We never store your password. What we keep is a one-way scrambling of it, which can confirm the right password when you type it but cannot be turned back into it - so we cannot read it, cannot tell it to you, and cannot hand it to anybody who asks. You can close your account at any time by contacting us, and a real person will handle it and confirm when it is done

Gifts and money

Cash gifts are paid directly into your own Stripe account - not to AHNOU. Before you can accept them you open a Stripe account through your Payouts page, and in doing so you enter an agreement with Stripe directly, on Stripe’s terms. You are the merchant for those payments. AHNOU is not a party to them, never holds the money, and has no balance of yours to release: there is nothing to request, no minimum, and no waiting on us. Stripe pays out to your bank on the schedule set in your own Stripe dashboard, and that schedule is between you and Stripe

We take no cut, and you keep the full amount of every gift. Stripe charges its own processing fee on each payment, and because the payment is yours that fee comes out of your account. AHNOU then sends you a separate payment covering it, so a $100 gift reaches you as $100 whichever way your guest paid. You will see both lines in your Stripe dashboard - the fee, and our payment putting it back - and that is what they are. If we ever cannot cover a fee we will tell you rather than leave you short

Because the payments are yours, so are the reversals. Refunds, chargebacks and disputes are handled under Stripe’s terms and come out of your Stripe balance, and Stripe may hold or recover funds under its own rules. AHNOU cannot reverse, release, or guarantee any payment, and cannot pay you money a guest has taken back. Where a gift we covered a fee on is refunded, we may recover what we paid. Keeping your Stripe account in good standing - verifying it when asked, keeping its details current - is yours to do, and gifts cannot reach you while it is not

Two different things are recorded, and they are not equally certain. The money is confirmed by Stripe - a gift is only counted once the payment has actually completed, so the amounts in your ledger are what was really paid. The giver’s name is whatever the guest typed, and we do not check it against the cardholder, the bank account, or anything else. A gift is matched to somebody on your guest list only when the name they gave matches exactly one person there; otherwise it is shown under the name given and left unmatched rather than guessed at. Where a guest chose to give an address for a thank-you note, it is shown to you with their gift and is theirs, not ours - use it to write to them and nothing else. AHNOU does not verify who anyone is, and is not responsible for a gift a guest attributed to the wrong name. Physical gifts are purchased directly from the retailer you linked, under that retailer’s own terms, and returns, delivery, and faults are handled by them

Giving a gift on someone's registry

You do not need an account to give, and the checkout links here because giving is where you agree to it. What you are asked for is short and each part is used for one thing: your name, so the couple know who to thank; your email, optional, used only for their thank-you and never added to a mailing list; a gift note, optional, which is passed to the couple as you wrote it; and an address, optional, used only so the couple can post you a thank-you note. Your gift goes through whether or not you give an address

Nothing is shipped to you and no shipping address is collected. A cash gift is money, and it goes straight to the couple - their own account receives it, and AHNOU never holds it at any point; a physical gift on the list is bought from the retailer’s own site, and any delivery is arranged between the couple and that retailer. Your card or bank details go straight to Stripe and never reach AHNOU. Nothing is added to what you chose to give - the whole amount reaches the couple, because AHNOU pays the processing fee itself

A gift is a gift, so it is not refundable at the giver’s request once it has gone through. If you gave the wrong amount or gave twice, write to us and we will put you in touch with the couple - but the payment is theirs, in their own account, so only they can refund it. AHNOU cannot reverse a gift for you. Do not give on behalf of somebody else without telling them, and use your own payment method. The note you write is shown to the couple and to nobody else

Custom domains and paid extras

Your wedding website is free on an ahnou.com address. If you buy a custom domain through AHNOU, payment is taken by Stripe and the domain is registered for you with our registrar partner. Domain registrations are bought from a third party and cannot be refunded once registered - if a registration fails, we refund it in full. A domain is registered for a fixed term and does not renew automatically; we will email you before it lapses. Prices are shown before you pay and include what you owe in full

Your content

Your photos, names, and words stay yours. By putting them on your wedding site you give us permission to host and display them there, and to make the copies and resizes needed to serve the page - that is all we use them for. We do not use your wedding photos in our own marketing unless you tell us we may. You confirm you have the right to upload what you upload, including photos taken by a photographer you hired. You can edit or remove your content whenever you like, and you can export your data at any time

Your guests are your responsibility

When you add guests to your list or publish their names, you are the one deciding what happens to their information, and you should have their agreement to hold it. Your site’s privacy setting is yours to choose - public, unlisted, or password-protected - and an unlisted site is still reachable by anyone who has the link. Please do not put anything on your site you would not want a stranger to read. If a guest asks you to remove their details, remove them, and write to us if you need help

Texting your guests

AHNOU can text your guests about your wedding - a change of time, a change of place, where the shuttle leaves from. Three things are true about it, and none of them are yours to change

A guest is only ever texted if that guest asked to be. They give their own number on your RSVP form and tick a box, and we keep the record of it. A number you typed in yourself, or imported from a spreadsheet, cannot be texted - the person it belongs to never agreed with us, and we will not send to them however sure you are that they would not mind

It is for your wedding and nothing else. No promotion, no selling, nothing forwarded on somebody else’s behalf. Use it for anything but your own event and we will stop your sending, and may close your account

The words are yours. We put your names on every message, add the line telling guests how to stop, hold the consent records, and handle anyone who replies STOP. What the message actually says is down to you, and your guests will read it as coming from you. By sending one you confirm it is about your event and that you are content for your guests to receive it

Fair use

Use AHNOU for your own wedding or event. Do not use it to send spam, host unrelated commercial content, resell the service, break the law, post content that is abusive or infringing, scrape or overload the service, or collect other people’s information beyond what your event needs. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service, and we will tell you why if we do

What belongs to AHNOU

The AHNOU name, the site itself, and our template designs are ours. You may use the templates to build and publish your own event site for as long as you have an account - you may not resell them, redistribute them, or use them to build sites for other people as a service

If someone copies your work

If you believe something on AHNOU infringes your copyright, email contact@ahnou.com with a link to the page, a description of the work, and confirmation that you own it or act for the owner. We will look at it and take down anything infringing. If we take down something of yours and you think we got it wrong, tell us and we will look again

What we can and cannot promise

We work hard to keep AHNOU running, but we provide it as it is. We cannot promise it will never be unavailable, never lose data, or always be error-free, and we do not guarantee the accuracy of prices, stock, or images pulled in from other stores. Please keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose - your export is there for exactly that. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer law where you live

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, AHNOU is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for gifts that do not arrive, or for money a guest sent to the wrong place. Because AHNOU never touches your gift money, we cannot be responsible for it. Where we are found liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim - which, for a free account, may be nothing. This does not limit liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited

Suspending or ending an account

You can leave at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we will email you the reason and, where we reasonably can, a chance to put it right first. If we close your account we will give you a window to export your data before it is deleted. If we ever shut AHNOU down, we will give you notice and time to take your site, registry, and guest list with you

If we disagree

Write to us first - almost everything is solved by a real person reading the problem. We do not require you to give up your right to go to court, and we do not ask you to waive taking part in a class action. These terms are governed by the law of the place AHNOU operates from, and you may also bring a claim where you live if your local law gives you that right

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a way that matters, we will email you before the change takes effect, and the date at the top of this page will change. Continuing to use AHNOU after that means the new terms apply. Notifications from AHNOU only ever arrive by email - we will never text you or call you about your account
